Background

The Havoc Masters started out as a small white gang in South Boston in 1989. They dabbled in drugs, armed robbery, and vandalism, though mostly short of murder in those days. They fought numerous other local gangs, especially ones with different ethnic backgrounds. One evening, six of the most active members of the gang hijacked an armored truck belonging to Pavilidis Pharmaceuticals. They targeted the truck specifically because they'd learned that it was filled with experimental drugs. They became involved in a car chase with the police and flipped the truck over on Storrow Drive, leading to a massive pile-up. The containers holding the drugs ruptured and the gang members were exposed to the experimental materials--in combination with the other drugs in their systems at the time. One member of the gang, Kurt Ebel, died immediately. But the other five present in the vehicle survived. In fact, all five of them gained uber powers as a result of their exposure, all developing super strength, among other changes.

Jack Ketterman, the team's leader, also known as Hancock, gained the ability to grow up to 12 feet tall. Mike Rogalski took hit football fandom to the next level as Gridiron. Angus Bean mutated into a minotaur-like figure, and adopted the name Black Angus. Patrick Remer developed a high-powered healing factor and took the name Trainwreck. And Jeff Malloy developed his skills in chain-fighting as the villain Chain.

Dumping--and, in some cases, killing--the other members of their gang, the five remaining Havoc Masters became a force to be reckoned with, an extraordinarily powerful villain team known for its high level of violence, its penchant for property destruction, and its willingness to act on petty grudges. One particular case of this occurred in 1993, when Gridiron disguised himself and tried to get onto the New England Patriots. The NFL team figured out who he was almost immediately and called the police. In retaliation, the Havoc Masters killed the coach, two assistant coaches, and half the team.

Since that time, the Havoc Masters have continued their violent rampages. They have recently developed a particular emnity for the heroes of Hero City after Black Angus was captured twice by Jungle Boy.

Area of Operations
The Havoc Masters travel throughout the United States and occasionally the rest of the world, constantly on the run. They retain a few friends in the Boston area, and have made allies within CLAW, so they sometimes take advantage of those relationships to hide from time to time.
Goals
The Havoc Masters typically aren't organized enough to have long-term goals. They enjoy fighting, try to make money when they can, and take special care to go after anyone who embarrasses them.
Reputation
The Havoc Masters mostly work on their own, but hire out as mercenaries sometimes, including to CLAW on a few occasions. They never seem to get ahead; when they make money, they squander it, and they're never able to settle in one place for too long. They'd be considered losers if they weren't so powerful and efficient. They are not considered particularly intelligent or flexible, but they live up to their name quite well. They have a particular talent for mass destruction.
