Gulmarg first appeared during the short war between India and Pakistan which was primarily waged by The Assembly. While most of Pakistan's ubers were killed in surprise attacks, Gulmarg survived the initial attacks and joined a resistance group, the Pakistani Liberation Front. He remained in Pakistan and the formerly disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir before being forced out by persistent and deadly attacks by the Assembly. He fled to Afghanistan and then further to Europe where he worked for various employers around the Black Sea.

He gradually grew aware of the criminal networks around Europe and petitioned to join S.U.M.M.I.T., gaining acceptance through the sponsorship of the Spanish member, Mulhacen.

Gulmarg got his name from a rock shelf located under Mount Apharwat at the west end of the Himalayas, an area he still calls home. Despite being hunted by the Assembly, Gulmarg has maintained his connection with the Pakistani Liberation Front (PLF) and returns to the subcontinent regularly, although he does so now with the backing of S.U.M.M.I.T..

Gulmarg has little known history before the Assembly's incursion into Pakistan. It is as if his previous life has been erased by the hate and violence, although given his age he most likely exhibited his rock-like skin before the incursion and therefore would have received some kind of social backlash. He is violently patriotic and has nothing but contempt for India and her superhero enforcers. He finances the PLF with the money he earns as a professional terrorist and he sees his work for S.U.M.M.I.T. as honorable, shying away from any direct assassination assignments.

Gulmarg's body is composed of a very hard, jagged stone-like substance. He has uberhuman strength and durability, able to lift in excess of 25 tons but possessing even more strength in his punches. He has developed something of a reputation for knocking other ubers around like balls. Somehow he is able to dislocate some of his rocky outcroppings and use them as missiles, able to spear opponents at great range. One of his most obvious weaknesses is his lack of speed and agility, but when fighting up close and personal he does show a ferocity which sometimes takes his opponents unawares.


Gulmarg is not particularly tall, especially considering he is a member of a team of ubers who name themselves after mountains; but he is particularly dense, weighing over 300lbs. His skin is a hard grey stone-like substance which protrudes from his body in sharp jagged points. It is almost impossible to touch him without drawing blood, and this has contributed to his feelings of isolation from the rest of humanity - another thing he blames the Assembly for (although he must have had to deal with his mutation prior to the incursion - a fact he seems to have forgotten or overlooked). Gulmarg does not wear clothes, as they too often shred, but does not show any sign of external features, including ears or nose. He has dark beady eyes which enable him to see equally well at night as during the day, although his hearing is considerably impaired probably due to his mutation as well as some childhood disease.
