Background

Morgana Legatto came from a long line of doctors in Messina. The Legatto's were known to not to care that they treated everyone, including Mafioso. When the Fascists came to power in Italy, several prominent mob bosses were exiled from the country. Morgana, one of the last of the Legatto's, heard rumors that she might be brought up on charges for aiding the criminals. She naively decided that she'd travel to Rome to prove her innocence to Mussolini.

Boarding a ship in Messina, Morgana left Sicily just before an arrest warrant. This was the last time she was seen in a long time. The trip out to sea proved fateful. A storm came up the first night blowing the ship way off course. The ship was cast upon a strange island, and only Morgana and the ships steward survived the landing.

Searching for water, the two came upon a strange villa. All sorts of animals from birds to cats wandered about the place, but they all fled at the sight of Morgana and the steward. At the center of the house they discovered a bubbling fountain. Exhausted they drank their fill and tried to make themselves as comfortable as possible. As for their host, they never saw him or her. That night the animals kept a watch.

In the morning, Morgana woke with a start. The steward was gone, and she was dressed in a diaphanous gown, of an obvious Greek style. After calming down a little, Morgana noticed the beautiful woman who swept into the room. At her side came a large jaguar along with a small dog. When the dog spotted that Morgana was awake he rushed over to jump into her lap. It was almost as if Morgana knew the dog.

“Ah, I see that you are now awake.”

“Um,” a confused Morgana muttered, “Yes. Thank you. Who are you?”

“Silly girl you know who I am. Use your mind and you will see.”

Morgana gave the woman an odd look, but like a bubble popping in her mind, it came to her.

“You are Circe.”

A smile played across the ancient sorceresses lips as she poured them both a cup of wine.

“Most astute observation Morgana.”

“But...but what do you want with me? I am only a doctor.”

“It’s not what you are Morgana, but what you can become. I see dark times ahead, and I find your talents most needed to face the challenges that the future holds.”

Turning to the fountain Circe waved her arm.

“Behold,” she commanded, “the Deathless Ones.”

The fountain turned to flames that reached towards the ceiling, and images were shown to the startled Morgana.

Demons and monsters of various shapes and sizes, but of obvious power, rampaged across a world very different from the one Morgana were used to.

“Once the Deathless Ones ruled this world before the coming of Atlantis.”

“And, they seek domination once again.”

“To this, I have brought you here; for training. To be prepared when the Deathless will surge against the Exile and break free to ravage this world again.”

Morgana was to train under the tutelage of Circe for almost 40 years. When Circe felt that she was ready to return to the world, she turned the dog who was actually the steward back into his human form. Georgio has aided Morgana ever since as her man servant.

Feeling that the time was quickly approaching, Morgana sought out Praetorian, Carnival, Maestro, and Alato Leone feeling that these heroes might have what it would take to push the Deathless Ones back from this world. Together they formed Protezoni.

Personality

Nothing ever seems to ruffle Morgana's feathers. Her training under Circe has taught her how to remain calm when things are going bad. On the negative side her training gives others the impression that Morgana is cold and distant. However, she’s a dedicated person, seeing herself as a last bastion of Earth against extra-dimensional threats. Morgana also likes to project to the world that she's a mysterious woman, which further makes people think that she's a cold fish.

Quote

"Stop demon. You shall not be allowed one step further into this dimension."

Powers

Fata Morgana is a very versatile psychic. Her training with Circe has opened her mind to almost endless applications of her powers. The limitation on her powers is that she can only generate psychic effects; as such she's unable to generate energy with her mind, nor manipulate objects with her mind. She has dedicated part of her mind to constantly guard her body, hence her force field.

Since forming Protezoni, Morgana has forged a mental link with the other members of the group. Regardless of distance, Morgana is able to communicate with each mentally. Further, with the training received from Circe, her mind is guarded from almost any mental intrusion, and her body functions on a very slow rate, as such she ages slow, doesn't need to sleep or eat much, and isn't affected by extremes in temperature.

Appearance

Morgana is a classical beauty. Some have even compared her to Helen of Troy. She's a tall woman with long cascading silvery hair that reaches down to the middle of her back. Her eyes match her hair. For a costume she wears a loose sleeveless green dress that reached down to her ankles. On her feet she wears silver slippers. Wrapped around the waist of her dress, Morgana has a silver belt.

Due to her psychic abilities it's easy for Morgana keep her identity a secret; hence she doesn't wear a mask. However, Morgana does maintain an identity outside of her Fata Morgana. She's a doctor at a local Venetian hospital. There she typically dresses as a doctor would, that include glasses.
