Background

The wind blew Ling Lee's lovely long raven black hair back as she drove her BMW with the top down. The landscape blurred past as the young woman shifted into the next gear. The car was top of the line, and a little above that as well. Ling came from a rich family, one of the wealthiest in Singapore, so she was used to the best of the best. Plus being the niece of Evol Khan didn't hurt either. Some said that if it wasn't for the former president her family wouldn’t be as well off as they were. Well, let them talk, thought Ling. To her the rumor mongers were nothing more than a bunch of chickens scratching in the dirt.

The motor hummed like a purring tiger, as Ling headed north, and north meant Malaysia. For a while Singapore had been part of Malaysia, but Singapore needed Malaysia like they needed a needy cousin. Singapore was better off without them. The only reason Ling was going to Malaysia was because of a photo shoot. Ling was a model, one of the worlds' best as far as she was concerned. She knew that she was vain, but if you had it flaunt it. That is what she believed.

Ling was doing well over a hundred kilometer an hour when she rounded a slight curve going into a mist-shrouded valley. This was when disaster struck. A peasant driving a water buffalo chose to cross the road at that moment. The BMW struck the buffalo like a missile. The next thing Ling knew the car was somersaulting through the air, before ignominiously crashing on its side. She was barely conscious before the car burst into flames from a ruptured gas tank and after that all Ling could do was scream before the darkness took her.

The hospital room smelled of disinfectant and burnt flesh. Ling noticed little of this. Life had become a bout of constant pain. Over ninety percent of her body was burned. Her beauty was in ruins. Ling spent her time, when she was lucid, in prayer to the Goddess of Mercy to grant her release from the torment. She was dosed with morphine constantly to combat the pain.

Ling wasn't sure when she noticed her visitor, or how long he had been sitting at her bedside. Evol Khan sat in a comfortable chair, his face unreadable as usual. Behind him stood two of his bodyguards, but they were completely in shadow. For a long time, she wasn't sure that they were there at all. It could’ve been a delusion brought on by the pain or the drugs. That was until Evol Khan spoke.

"So child," he started only to stop again. Ling tried to focus and failed. The pain was everything.

"The doctors are controlling the pain the best they can. However, pain can be an ally as well as an enemy. Pain is nature's way of telling us that we are alive."

"Certainly, my dear, you can testify to that."

"However, things don't have to remain as so."

With a barely perceptible turn of his head he indicated one of the men behind him.

"This is Doctor Crab, a member of my staff."

The slight Japanese man came forward and did a slight bow that was almost insulting. He was ugly too. If Ling could speak, she would've sent the foreigner away. She had little truck with Japanese. However, the air tube down her throat prevented comment.

"The good doctor has told me of a remarkable restorative that he has designed for me. Alas, the expense makes production of this drug impracticable. Plus to those who show an allergic reaction to the drug. Well, let me say that it isn't pleasant."

"However, do not fear Lee Ling for Doctor Crab has assured me that you won't suffer such an ignominy."

"As in all things under the sun you have a choice. Doctor Crab can administer his restorative, or I can have you moved to a different hospital, but I fear that even that wouldn't help you in your case. Death would be better I think."

Ling pondered the offer just for a moment before nodding her head in assent.

Evol Khan smiled. "Excellent, excellent," he cooed. "However, before Doctor Crab proceeds I must discuss the cost. No, no, not in money my dear. The restorative is a gift from me. However, once you're recovered, my dear, I have a need for a girl of your talents. We will talk about this more later."

Evol Khan reached out and patted Ling's arm. Tears came to her eyes from the pain of that simple touch.

Bowing to Evol Khan the Japanese scientist stepped closer.

In poor Mandarin he explained that the drug must be administered in an artery, preferable in the neck. Evol Khan merely nodded his approval, before Doctor Crab plunged the needle deep into the jugular of Ling.

At first Ling couldn't feel anything, and then a warm sensation seemed to course through her body. Dead skin fell away showing beautiful regenerated skin beneath. Soon the warmth covered her entire body. It was like being born again.

Two days later, she was released from the hospital. Her doctors couldn't believe what they had seen. Ling never told them of the visit of Evol Khan. They wouldn’t understand. A stretch limousine awaited her outside. Sitting inside waiting for her was her uncle, Evol Khan.

"Ah my dear I'm so glad that you recovered so nicely. Now let us talk about the payment I spoke of earlier."

The limo drove off into the hectic city traffic of Singapore.

Personality

Ling knows that she’s beautiful, and everybody better not forget it. When Ling fights, she always wants to look her best. Typically she avoids fights where her face might get hurt. She’d rather let the other members of the Black Lotus Society soak up punishment before she comes in and performs the coup-de-grace. It never is good for a girl to look like she has been mussed up in a fight.

Ever since her crash Ling has an all-consuming fear of fire. Of course with her regenerative abilities she really doesn’t have too much to fear about fire. However, Ling just knows that a fire would mar her beauty. She just can’t help herself. She’ll never feel safe around an open flame. She’d cry if she wasn’t afraid that her mascara would run. Ling has been known to go into shock when attack with fire.

Quote

"Wouldn't you rather be buying me a drink than fighting. No? Oh well. Gotcha. What? Oh that, that is a little something that'll help you sleep. Bye-Bye. Luv ya!"

Powers

Ling has been slightly altered by Doctor Crabs’ injection. The injection has caused her latent Uber abilities for regeneration to emerge. Furthermore, at Evol Khans’ commands, the doctor has done other bio-mechanical alterations in Ling. Hidden under her natural finger nails, are a second set of finger nails, which while organic have the strength of steel. Ling is able to use these finger nails as weapons, weapons most foes wouldn’t even realize that she had. Also hidden at the base of the finger nails, are small capsules of curare. However, the only way for the drug to be injected is if Ling scores a hit that actually draws blood. Naturally, Ling has been given enough treatments that the curare doesn’t affect her in the least.

Originally, Ling was being groomed as an assassin for Evol Khan, but when Evol Khan’s ally General Cho was rebuilding his Black Lotus Society, Evol Khan felt that Ling would make the perfect minder for the drug lord. However, Ling has received a lot of training in hand-to-hand combat by a nearby Shaolin monastery. Finally she has been given a special costume that can turn aside most blades, and even small caliber firearms.

Appearance

Ling is an extremely attractive woman. She has the alluring eyes of an Asian lady, a true vamp. Ling, who was known as “Lezzlie” in the West, keeps her long straight hair in a way such that one eye is always covered with a lock of hair. This lends her an air of mystery. Her fingernails are unusually long, but become longer still when she brings the finger blades out.

Ling likes to wear fashionable clothes. However, usually costume is a red and white dress with slits that run up to her thighs. Not only does this allow her to deliver devastating kicks, but also shows off her fabulous legs. A crescent cut out with the horns up shows of a lot of cleavage. On her feet, Ling wears red slippers.
