There are several equally likely to be true stories of Vetra's background.

1. He is a mutant with air powers and schizoid delusions of an alternate reality, and enough unconscious power to subconsciously make these delusions seem real.

2. He is the direct scion of a potent mythic monster, and grandchild of several penultimately powerful Entities from the dawn of Time or before, with a mission to act on their behalf.

3. He has been engineered or come about by accident as the offspring of whimsical creatures who have deceived him about his true nature.

4. He is ignorant of the truth and is lying convincingly about his true background, when he tells it at all.

In addition, there are several fairly consistent and objectively provable elements to Victor Vendaval's life story. He is a university student with the ability to speak a wide variety of Romance and other languages. His parents are both deceased, and his mother died as the widow Vicomtessa Victrice Vendaval of Sardinia in a terrorist act attributed to the African group known as Legion. Victor is a competent falconer, comfortably deals with aristocrats as an equal,

is brilliantly charismatic and is a remarkably gifted athlete who will compete obsessively is games and sports. Vendaval has no visible means of financial support and did not inherit land or wealth, though his title is uncontested.

Vetra -- for the few who even know this invisible and virtually silent sentient cyclone exists -- is demonstrably powerful, fast, tough and honourable, with an fairly difficult to penetrate will and mysterious motives.



Is it because he was fatherless from an early age, a mutant, a halfbreed, schizophrenic, a fantasizer, a penniless aristocrat, naturally gifted, or for some other reason that competition drives this young man? Is his promise to his mother to complete university all that keeps him connected to human form at all, or might the ordinary needs of any human anchor him to the material world? Vetra certainly is obsessive about serving the Storm Court with fidelity and loyalty beyond the capacity of any of its normal capricious chaotic denizens. And he adheres to a code of honour that -- while he does not insult his heredity of invisibility and stealth by considering them unfair advantages in combat -- requires him to seek meaningful challenges and offer opponents an opportunity to save face and escape with dignity (though it may come at a steep cost). All bets are off with regard to the Legion. For them, there is the due of honourless cowards -- no quarter, no mercy, no pity.

Vetra's air elemental abilities embody the power of a superconcentrated cyclone, far more potent than anything nature produces on Earth when he is in his invisible, nearly silent, air form. Like air, he is ephemeral, not subject to the ordinary perils of living flesh, human spirit or mortal mind. Nothing in or of natural air limits or opposes him.


'On the job' Vetra is an invisible and indeterminately sized and shaped being of ultraturbulent air, so energetic it might as well be rigid steel to incoming contacts, but still capable of stretching and squeezing through narrow openings and to fill large volumes of space. While there is a Vetra villain costume for his human form, it is more or less Zorro-style garb in dark blue with a pale blue mask made from what appears to be a fine lady's kerchief. In his 'leisure time' Victor Vendaval favors unkempt vintage clothes (Vicomte Vincent's fine tailored suits and other retro outfits) worn with capriciously unkempt flair and imaginatively mixed colours.
