Background

There was a sense of darkness that began to creep in when she picked up her cell phone and saw the identifier on the small LCD display. That specific combination of numbers and letters was a password that told Winda that Agent Isingoma was the one who was calling. And that agent was assigned to the part of the Africa Force One team that was in Zanzibar right now. She depressed the Talk key and said, "Den One..."

*Den One, this is Fishhawk's Eyes...* There was a bit of hesitation before the agent continued. "I am sorry to report that Kilimanjaro and Ibex are dead."

"What?..." Winda said in a whisper. Her brother was... dead? It was hard to fathom that. He was nearly indestructible. "How?..."

*He sent Congo and Ibex to destroy the target while he diverted Al-Humra Nisr and Saladin. He had taken out the Al-Humra by throwing him into the bay and was then locked in with Fatwa's strongman. It was then that Congo returned announcing the mission a success. But Ibex didn't return and Congo said that he thought his teammate was following... That was when Congo, instead of assisting Kilimanjaro against Saladin, attacked your brother from behind. Kilimanjaro fell under the combined attack and, when I reached him, his throat was slashed and he was dead. I found Ibex dead, too, but with the bomb's detonator destroyed in his hand... I'm sorry...*

There was silence that befit the moment.

She had been at work late in her apartment, preparing documents. Part of Africa Force One had been sent to Douala, Cameroon on a mission while a simultaneous mission had been sent to Zanzibar, Tanzania. Both missions had standby security clearance given by all nations of the Accord to all members of Africa Force, but still, legal paperwork would need to be filed after the actions were complete. And that was part of Winda's job as Secretary and General Counsel to Africa Force.

Now, her brother was dead.

Winda gathered her wits and said, "Are you safe?"

*At the moment, yes.*

"Bring back pictures and other evidence if you can without jeopardizing your life or your cover." Winda ordered. "Then get back here as soon as possible. Den One, out."

Winda allowed herself to slump into her chair and wipe her tears with a tissue. Her brother was dead. But father had always told the two of them the dangers of being a hero. And Jengo firmly accepted that. She couldn't dishonor him by failing to do what she needed to do. Grief and mourning were needed, but not so that it would cloud her purpose.

What would become of Africa Force One? The team had been in existence for less than a year, the first expansion of the Tsholofelo's Africa Force. Well, truly, the team had begun long before that, but had no name. Safari who was also known to some as Africa, Eland, Python, and Firewind had worked together since the 1970s. And Winda's father, Jelani Zuberi, who was also known as Eland was their de facto leader.

By the new millenium, the team-that-had-no-name was led by Kilimanjaro, who was Winda's brother, Jengo. Safari and Python had perished fighting crime. Firewind's powers had steadily decreased with age, and so she retired. Eland himself had sustained injuries so severe that he was not effective in combat. His wisdom was and is still a great resource for the team. In their places were Serengeti, Congo, and Ibex.

Katlego and Kagiso Tsholofelo persuaded Eland and Ibex that the team-that-had-no-name would do well as part of Africa Force. And they even graciously granted Eland's team the honor of being called Africa Force One. The master technologist, Jean-Pierre Nthanda, was added as the powered hero Resolute as much for his knowledge of Azambia as for his powerful suit. The godling, Heru-sa-Aset, too was added as much for his knowledge of the Sons of Set and Fatwa as for his supernatural abilities. Africa Force One was created and this most powerful superteam of the continent was based in Nairobi, where the threat level was highest. And their enemies decided to break apart the team that threatened their easy dominance of the region.

Winda vowed to track down Congo, the man who was trusted by her father and brother. He was responsible for the death of Jengo and the death of Ibex. A traitor for money, he would pay. And she wasn't going to stop him by being the best attorney of Eastern Africa. There were enough attorneys in the world. Right now, the people of Eastern Africa needed a superhero. Right now, Africa Force needed a leader.

Jelani Zuberi had groomed his son, Jengo, to be leader of a superteam. He had groomed his daughter to provide the legal representation to allow superheroes to perform their responsibilities without needing to worry about administrative matters. But, Winda had not missed the lessons Jelani provided to Jengo. She could not, for she was her brother's sparring partner.

Now was her time. Opening her closet, she picked out the tan costume with the lioness silhouette, considered it for a moment, and then put it back. In a hidden adjunct to her closet, she unlocked a chest and pulled out the blue suit. As Africa Force's administrator, she had requested and obtained the suit from the Tsholofelos without anyone asking any questions.

The suit fit well, but for a little tightness around her chest and thighs. Well, this was, after all the first time that she had worn it. Depressing the power button on the belt was but the first step to activate it. The remaining steps were complete after a minute.

Africa Force One would go on and the next weeks would be busy ensuring that it was a strong force that could stand up to the likes of Congo, Fatwa, the Sons of Set, and any other threats to the region.

She depressed the #1 quick dial on her cell phone, and when a deep voice, slightly crackling from age, answered at the other end, tears welled up in her eyes once again. Winda began simply, "Father... Jengo... was killed..."

Personality

Winda is typically of calm demeanor and business-like attitude. When some good person is threatened, however, those that threaten will see her fierce side. She is the lioness and the people of Africa are her pride. When she tracked down and subdued Congo, she nearly killed him. Now that he's escaped, she just might have a chance to complete that piece of unfinished business.

Quote

"Don't think that my bark is worse than my bite."

Powers

Stronger and more agile than even an athlete, Lioness still can't match up to most most other ubers without her modified Africa Force Suit. She has practiced the ways of fighting and tracking since she was a child, and honed it further as a solo crimefighter during her time as an attorney in Nairobi.

Appearance

Once comfortable in a business suit and always carrying a briefcase, Winda is never seen without her Africa Force suit on. With her brother dead and her position of leader of Africa Force One, she does nothing else. On the right sleeve of her uniform, Lioness, has sewn two patches, black silhouettes of an ibex and snow-capped Mt Kilimanjaro. Her blonde hair can never grow longer than a few inches in length. Her smile, whether friendly or fierce is quite disarming as she sports sharp teech and canines that would make any member of the cat family proud.
