Parhelion discovered Watu Mbeki at a lecture that he was giving at the Johannesburg University. He was surprised that no matter what he said the kid in the back row always seemed to contradict him. At first this was amusing, but later got irritating, especially when Watu contradicted or anticipated everything Parhelion said. Parhelion wasnít used to be spoken to in such a manner. The super-hero demanded that the boy speak to him after the lecture.

After the lecture the boy was still there, and Parhelion was going to give the lad a piece of his mind when the boy asked him for his autograph. This flabbergasted Parhelion that he didnít know what to say. It further confounded Parhelion when the boy kept talking, faster and faster, but his lips werenít moving. That was when it dawned on Parhelion that the boy was a telepath.

Watu proceeded to beg Parhelion to allow him to join Africa Force, because Watu knew, just knew, that he was destined to become a super-hero. Watu even had a costume, which he built himself. Watu then proceeded to open his shirt to show Parhelion the Africa Force costume he had made himself. Parhelion didnít know what to say to such enthusiasm. It wasnít long after their first meeting that Watu found himself in Africa Force Three. At first he was a little miffed because he wanted to work alongside Parhelion, but later figured the other members of Africa Force Three needed him more. Somebody had to do the thinking for Africa Force Three, so it might as well be Synapse, the fastest thinker in Africa.

Watu has recently developed his powers, but he has always been an extremely bright boy. He always seemed to know the answers before the teachers had even asked a question. Watu was always the first one in class to raise his hand to answer a question, which he invariably got right. This of course has gotten him labeled as a geek, not that Watu notices. Watu knows that heís right and has a tendency to share his opinions on everything with anyone who doesnít have mental defenses.

For Watu his personal hero is Doctor Katlego Tsolofelo, whoís also know as Parhelion. Watu would seriously like to be Parhelionís side kick, or maybe partner. Partner would be better, because Watu isnít some kid, at least in his own thoughts. There isnít anything that Watu wouldnít do for Pahelion, even lead Africa Force Three for him. Now if only the other members of Africa Force Three would take him seriously like Parhelion.

"Think Fast! Too Slow!"

Watu is a telepath, able to communicate with others without speaking. Watu can influence another persons mind to a limited degree. He can read others thoughts, so long as they donít have strong mental barriers. Watu can even shut down another persons nerve endings in their eyes preventing them from seeing for awhile. He was further extend this to temporarily shut down a foes muscular control, however, Watuís control of this power is rather limited. Besides assaulting a foes senses, Watu can project a burst of mental energy that disrupts a foes synapses, which is quite painful. Watu can also energize his own synapses and briefly get bursts of inspiration.

Watu has also trained himself to be resistant to others mental powers, and when using his mental powers can use them faster than what he normally would be able to. He also has a tendency to blur his foes perceptions of him making it more difficult for a foe to hit him. Like his hero Parhelion, Watu wears an Africa Force uniform, which he built himself. However, unlike Parhelionís suit Watuís has no other ability other than as protection from attacks.

Watu is a short for his age with a rangy build. He keeps his Afro short, mostly so he doesn't have to worry about it. Watu wears a costume similar to one worn by Parhelion, a skintight blue costume with light grey panels on the sides of the legs and arms, a darker grey for their gloves, boots and mask; and a black belt which displays the team logo. The only deviation from the Africa Force costume, is that Watu has a band of white around the chest that meets in the middle of his chest shaped like a synapse. Out of costume Watu dresses like a typical geeky teenager, including glasses which he doesn't need.
