Background

Chris was always a talented young man. Every since he was young and he could remember, he was good at everything he put his mind to. He was taller, stronger and faster than the other children around. This, in itself, wasn’t a problem because he was surrounded by privileged and confident peers who took the stage from him whenever they could. There was chance of disaster in Chris’ psyche, the potential for ruin and arrogance was simmering just below the surface. Only two things kept Chris’ feet on the ground and thinking in the correct terms - his mother and father,
Roger and Phoebe Bradfell were both successful in business and had worked their way up from nothing to financial greatness. Bradfell Electronics was a family run business that both of them were heavily involved in and had matured from supplying minor electronic components to a few firms to being a multi-million global mechanical, robotic research and electronics business that was particularly successful in the United Kingdom.
Quickly Chris was put through all of the appropriate schools and colleges with an eye to him taking over the business at a latter stage. His mind was no less sharp than his impressive physique and he graced through academia without issue.
It was at this time Chris began to wonder fully…why was he so talented at everything? Why could he excel at whatever he did and still find time to help everybody else. The answer was in his genes, which was something his parents had suspected for sometime.
Unbeknownst to Chris, his parents were fully engaged with the British Government, doing their bit to aid the country. Roger and Phoebe never lost sight of where they came from and what the true values of life were. This involvement with the Government meant dual access to information and technology beyond your “shop-shelf” material and both Bradfell and the Government benefited greatly from this relationship. That is, until the extremist anarchy movement discovered the link between them.
Meanwhile, after badgering his family over “what is going on with me?”, finally the Bradfell’s had tests performed on Chris and it proved what everybody had suspected - he was a metahuman. Overall his bio process ran at exponentially higher levels than normals, enabling the transference of bio-inorganic and bio-electrical signals at high power and high rate around the body. It was hypothesised that latent genes in his parents had combined to produce the 1 in a billion gene set that produced this metahuman effect.
At this discovery, Roger took the bull by the horns and took his son aside, to explain that he still needed to be a Bradfell, to be himself and be true to his ideals even with this momentous news.
Chris, now in his early thirties, continued with his sporting and social activities, blending it with his responsible position as Chief Research Officer for Bradfell Electronics - Robotics Division.
Many an innovative design was worked on as part of BE’s remit with the government and own business partners but most stayed out of general public scrutiny. This was an interesting time but this was about to all change…..

A runway bomb had nearly ended both of Chris’ parents lives, the bomb not destroying their Small Jet completely on the Athens runway. It killed his mother and very badly injured his father, who became heavily crippled and confined to his advanced wheelchair. It wasn’t long after when two separate Internet broadcasts claimed responsibility for the murderous act.
Instead of lying down and wilting away, the Bradfell’s fought back. Roger, his whole life now intensely focussed on his only son, devised a plan with which they could fight back, give more back to combat the extremists and criminals that impacted on the public (and their) peaceful lives.
It was a dangerous plan but one which Chris signed up for without pause or regret.
Quietly, over time, materials, research and personnel where channelled into certain projects of a human nature. Some of the staff became trusted in the inner circle and others, unaware, worked to further Roger’s grand plan. With his intense research and training at night mostly, Chris himself was hardily ever seen during the day by the normal staff and one day, one of the trusted staff jokingly called him the “Nightwatchman” - and the name stuck in Chris’ head….

It was one dark night in summer, a lone dark figure appeared on the rooftop of the derelict warehouse in London’s Dockland. Nightwatchman was born and Roger Bradfell, watching from his automated penthouse, was pleased.

Shortly afterwards, Chris was seen around the company more, his intense look now replaced by a more relaxed one. A stance which suggested a man more at ease with himself and life in general. Most people put it down to his long recovery from the death of his mother and the crippling of his father, who still ran the business with flair and energy, despite his injuries.

After a few tentative encounters with petty thugs and criminals in London, rumours spread about the presence of a hero whom patrolled the streets of London at night. One major incident elevated Chris’ visibility from beyond petty thugs to organised crime. Charlie Hyde was an up and coming Rugby Union player, an outside centre of some note on the fringes of a regular International place. To match his undoubted talent, he had the looks and charisma to match. He also had a love of the high live and carousing. After just fleecing an East London casino out of a large amount of money his tired walk took him into the “wrong part of town”. The Millers, the notorious East London gang decided that they wanted their money back - the hard way. The major flaw in their plan was the sudden appearance of Nightwatchman and the drubbing of the six goons. Charlie was awed and very grateful to the superhero and a strange relationship developed from then.

Even with this success of sorts, Chris was still finding his feet and was wary of exposing himself just yet in daylight to the general public at large.
Not that his nocturnal approach helped, shortly after his activities started he was called in to see his father on a personal matter.

It was the presence of an unknown suited man with Roger that was unusual to Chris but all became clear very, very quickly.
“Mr. Bradfell, can you please attend an appointment we’ve set up on your behalf for tomorrow. Your discretion at your manner of dress and arrival would be most appreciated…Good Day Roger, Mr. Bradfell”

Now only with his father in the room Chris read the card carefully

“9am, Wednesday 19th September, MI5 building, Floor 4, Mr. Jacobs”

Personality
Chris is a positive character, always willing to give people a chance. For people who betray his trust or trick him, he is as energetic in his pursuit of justice as anyone.
The dry humour isn’t his most obvious trait but is one of his most consistent threads throughout his life.
He’s wary of and mostly distrustful of extreme attitudes and behaviours. It was that which killed his mother although he never intends to sink so low as to kill in revenge (and therefore act in extreme himself)

Powers

Chris’ impressive physique is primarily due to his internal boost in energy from rapid bio-electrical impulses. This give him the ability to be a superior athlete and martial artist without extending into the realm of “Super”. Swing lines and glider arm chutes add to his ability to get around in an urban environment. To augment this, his body suit and gauntlets is engineered to interact with his specific bio-signal, giving effective armour and taser capability and the ability to fight in total sensory deprivation due to targeting enhancers which home in on electrical impulses from nearby individuals.

Appearance

Chris is a muscular, physically impressive man with bright eyes and a wry smile nearly always on his face.

As Chris Bradfell, he’s normally seen in casual smart clothes such as open necked shirt, loose slacks and maybe a sports jacket. As with most businessmen, he can scrub up well and dress in tailored suits and look the part.
Nightwatchman is decked out in a black body suit with full face hood with only opaque grey eye slits. His tight fitting (actually integral with the body suit) flak jacket has his NWm logo on its back and belt of many a pouch and loop for items. If you looked quickly you could mistake the jacket as one that Nightwatchmen themselves wear during their night shifts.
Dark Grey boots and dark grey light gauntlets finish off the effect for the superhero.
