John Bull was an ugly, working class lad whose only real skill was with his fists. As a kid, he'd been taunted by the other children because of the severe scar down his face he'd had since he was a baby. The only way he found to retaliate was to hit those picking on him. When he became a teenager, he found he had no interest in schoolwork. So he put his life of fighting to use and did some amateur boxing.

As a boxer he was pretty good - at least when he stuck to the rules and wasn't getting angry. In the ring, it appeared that any blows directed his way lost their momentum and did little damage. If anything they appeared to make John stronger and angrier. Still no one really seemed to notice and John was unaware of his evolving metahuman abilities, thinking it was just to do with his fighting ability.

When he left school at 16, John's future didn't look bright. He'd pretty much ignored school and hadn't learnt anything. So John decided to put his strength and fighting ability to use and joined the army, serving there for a number of years. It was here that he gained the nickname Bulldog, because of his dirty fighting, his easy to enrage personality and, of course, his name. And it was whilst serving in the army that John, and his superiors, became aware of his metahuman abilities.

He and his unit had been placed in Northern Ireland to help keep the peace. Although perhaps not the most levelheaded of soldiers, John had learned to restrain himself a little since joining up. But he still tended to annoy the locals especially those who wanted the British Army out of their country. Within a few months, the IRA targeted John’s unit.

The mortar bomb they launched hit their armoured transport and exploded killing everyone inside - everyone except John. Amazing, John was hardly injured and only a little stunned. Within moments, he was up and angry as hell. Spotting the terrorists who had attacked, John launched himself at them and beat them black and blue. Realising that his strength was now beyond normal human limits, John managed to calm himself down to ensure he didn't kill the men who had attacked him. Still, they were badly injured.

Of course the Army found out and recalled him. Although not pleased with the way he handled the matter they nonetheless realised how useful John could be. They began to test him and train him for possible use in future campaigns. The training also helped John to rein in his anger. A few months later they sent their British Bulldog to the Israeli/Lebanese border to help rescue a number of soldiers held hostage by the supervillain group Fatwa.

Actually, at the time of the rescue, the members of Fatwa were actually helping to bomb London and so Bulldog encountered only a small amount of resistance. News of an uberhuman wearing a red and white costume leaked out to those high up in the British government. They 'requested' that he be transferred from the military to British Intelligence and join Majestic. They felt he would better serve his country in a team of other superhuman individuals.

Grudgingly the army let their Bulldog join MI5.

After a small amount of training, Bulldog was sent to protect the deputy Prime Minister after rumours of a possible assassination attempt. The rumours were true – the vicious slayer Kali had taken on the job to hunt down members of the Cabinet. Bulldog managed to stop the ruthless killer’s attack but Kali escaped and Bulldog ended up in hospital. Although his injuries had been extensive, Bulldog left the hospital barely more than a day later.

John "Bulldog" Bull comes across as a hard and arrogant man who takes no crap from anyone. He tends to deal with things by fighting but he’s no idiot, just a little reckless. Whilst fighting he'll use and do practically anything to win because he doesn't like to lose. If it looks like he's losing in combat he tends to get very angry.

John is also very patriotic and fervently believes in England as a green and pleasant land. He is proud of the Royal family and will never have a bad word said against them nor England. He tolerates foreigners as long as they are not attacking or bad-mouthing England. The same can also be said for Welsh, Scottish and Irish nationalists.

Coming from a military background, John respects the chain of command - as long as the person giving him the orders appears to know what they're on about. He has also matured since his younger days. He's thorough, works hard, and has a decent head on his shoulders. These qualities, together with his patriotism, makes him an ideal British soldier and, hopefully, a Majestic officer.

"I'm gonna beat the friggin' piss outta you, yer piece of crap."

Bulldog just has one superhuman power and that is the ability to absorb energy. He can absorb any type of energy, such as electricity, fire/heat and light as well as kinetic energy from punches, bullets and falls. Damage from these attacks is reduced somewhat and converted into enhanced strength and reflexes. Thus, the more he fights the stronger and quicker he gets.

As time has gone on, the absorbed energy has increased Bulldog's natural strength and agility so that now he is at the extreme of human limits and perhaps at the low-end of superhuman strength. It has also increased his stamina and enables him to heal far quicker than normal.

Because of the nature of Bulldog’s power, he is somewhat vulnerable to Drain attacks. His body is constructed to absorb power and energy and not for it to be taken away.

In addition to this power, Bulldog is also an expert in combat and hard martial arts such as boxing and street fighting. He doesn't do any of that foreign rubbish such as Kung Fu, Judo or Karate. Those sorts of martial techniques he believes are only for wimps.

John Bull is a muscled and athletic man who has obviously been working out. He appears to be almost as broad across the shoulders as he is tall. Then again at just under 5 foot 8 inches, John is not that tall.

He has very short blond hair, dull blue eyes, and a strong square jaw. His face is not what you would call attractive and has an obvious ugly scar running down the side. This, together with his overbearing presence, gives him an intimidating look.

The army gave Bulldog a white body suit with a large, red St. George's cross on it as a costume. However because of its skin-tight nature, Bulldog felt like a right puff dressed in it. Still, it's made of a type of bio-fibre that doesn’t impinge on Bulldog’s energy absorption abilities and remains forever spotless. It also depicts the English flag so, being the patriot that he is, Bulldog has kept it.

To make the white costume look more presentable, over the top he wears jeans and black army boots. Occasionally he'll wear a jacket, usually a camouflage/military type. He doesn't mind wearing other clothing if the mission requires it but feels uncomfortable in formal clothing such as suits, dinner jackets and the like.
