Mbali Sompisi couldn’t believe what had happened to her. She had always been a good park ranger in the Kruger National Park. Never a blemish on her record; well there was that act of insubordination, but that was minor. Nothing had happened like this in all the five years she worked in the park. Mbali didn’t understand it herself.

However, the facts were the facts, and due to the bizarre circumstances of two nights before she found herself sitting outside the commander’s door. Mbali feared the worse. What she had done to those poachers was certainly extreme, or at least Mbali thought she had done it. Mbali never like poachers, hated them in fact. So Mbali went a little overboard when she found five poachers standing over the carcass of an elephant.

Things got a little blurry after that. Mbali’s anger was unleashed, and she could’ve sworn that she commanded the trees to attack, and the next thing she knew she had this club in her hand, which felt so natural. With the cudgel she had slammed a poacher almost a quarter of a kilometer with one blow. The fight was almost over before it had started.

However, one of the poachers turned out to be the Hunter. He couldn’t believe that a mere woman could stand up against him, but he was defeated and took off. Mbali was hot on his trail. Unfortunately the Hunter was getting away. Mbali was struck by inspiration, and ran right towards a baobab tree, and through it. She came out of another tree right in front of the Hunter. The villain served away to miss Mbali, but she brought him down, and arrested him. The Hunter was later to escape custody.

As for Mbali she had been summoned to the commander’s office to explain herself. Mbali had just about given up trying to explain what happened when the door opened and she was asked in.

Mbali was a little taken aback when not only was the commander there, but another person. It was Kagiso Tsholofelo, who was known across Africa as Peacekeeper.

After introductions, the commander explained that Peacekeeper had come to his office after hearing reports of Mbali’s feats.

“Yeah right,” said Mbali.

“No it is true my dear,” said Peacekeeper, “Africa Force wants to expand and after we were made aware of your unique talents I thought you’d be natural for our pilot program. Africa force is going to expand into four other semi-independent groups. One of these groups which is going to be based in Cape Town, and I’d like you to join.”

Mbali looked at the great woman askance, but when Kagiso met her gaze unwavering, but it was Mbali who looked away first.

“You’ve got to be kidding,” said Mbali, “I am not a super-hero. I am a simple park ranger.”

“We shall see,” said Kagiso, “We shall see.”

Mbali has lived so long out in the park, by herself that she doesn’t relate well to other people. Sure she’ll put up with her fellow humans, but that doesn’t mean she has to enjoy herself. A few other rangers think that Mbali is really odd, but respect her skills. Because Mbali doesn’t relate well with others she’s always coming off with a sarcastic comment, and most people who don’t know her well think that she’s really rude.

Her experiences out in the park has put her into a lot of conflict with poachers. For years Mbali dedicated her life to hunting down poachers and sending them to jail. For Mbali killing animals for their furs, or their ivory is despicable. Mbali has been known to really loose it when confronted by such people. To Mbali poachers are the lowest form of life on the planet.

"You've got to be kidding."

Mbali is an Uber with the ability to manipulate plants in a wide variety of ways. Her main power is the ability to animate plants and have them do her bidding. Mbabli can animate trees that with a little cajoling she can get them to fight for her. However, there has to be trees around before she can use that ability. With smaller plants, Mbali can cause them to ensnare a group of foes, or cause vines to grow and have them perform simple tasks. Mbali can also communicate with plants by touching them, or even command them with a touch and a mental prod. One of her more odd abilities is the power to pass through plants. Naturally for her to move between plants, the plant must be of sufficient size for her to move through it.

Naturally Mbali is very much attuned with nature, and isn’t affected by most poisons, or needs to eat much. Mbali can also root herself to a spot, and resist being knocked back. However, she must be aware of the attack to root herself into place.

Mbali can also take a plant, be it a blade of grass, or a stick, and turn it into a high powered cudgel. With her cudgel Mbali delivers powerful blows that throw back her foes. However, when she’s done with it, the cudgel returns to what it was before Mbali picked it up.

Mbali is a very compact woman. She barely stands over five feet in height, showing a possible bushman ancestry. Mbali keeps her Afro cut really close to her scalp. As Bushveld she wears a costume similar to her ranger uniform; a tan jacket, brown trousers, boots, and a black belt which displays the team logo. Around her neck she wears a green silk scarf. Unlike her normal ranger uniform, her costume acts just like body armor. Her eyes flash green when she's using her powers.
