Slipknot and Vertigo first encountered the vigilante Carnival at a party hosted by Juliano Escara, a local socialite and patron of the arts. At first the two heroes assumed that Carnival was part of some kind of entertainment put on by Juliano, because Carnival decked out in full carnival gear including a painted mask flipped right down the middle of the party knocked party goers left and right. Neither knew that Carnival was chasing after an art thief. It was after Carnival had gotten the thief cornered, that things quickly changed. The thief decided to put up a fight, and traded blows with Carnival, causing a lot of damage.

Carnival didn’t seem to notice the havoc she was causing, and was flipping here and there; tossing colored balls that exploded creating even more chaos. For Slipknot and Vertigo the party was over. Slipknot came forward and his green hair attempted to encircle the masked vigilante, but Carnival proved to agile for this attack. Seeing the green haired albino as a threat, Carnival threw a blue ball at Slipknot, which exploded around him. Even though Slipknot tried to dodge away from the explosion, ice instantly formed around him freezing Slipknot in mid-leap.

Seeing her companion unable to stop Carnival, Vertigo rushed in. Vertigo’s eyes flashed as she called up her Uber ability to affect another person’s equilibrium. Carnival was in mid-leap when the mental attack struck her down. She crashed into a table sending champagne glasses flying. Thinking that she had the vigilante out, Vertigo came forward to check on the woman.

Carnival was laid out on the broken table, and her mask was a little off, and Vertigo could see a large scar running down the left side of Carnivals face. However, Vertigo had underestimated Carnival. With one hand righted her mask, and with the other did a flip driving her foot into Vertigo stomach driving her back. Before Vertigo could recover, Carnival delivered a roundhouse kick that drove Vertigo back into a wall where she slumped to the floor.

Seeing that the art thief had escaped, Carnival leaped through a window into the nearby canal. Slipknot who had freed himself from the icy entangle rushed to the window, but wasn’t able to see anything in the water. Carnival had simply disappeared. Shortly Vertigo came to his side clutching her stomach where Carnival had kicked her.

Smiling wanly Vertigo go said, “I guess this party was a bust.”

Slipknot nodded still looking out the window for a sign of Carnival, and then said, “You certainly got that right.”

Over the next few months, the pair occasionally ran into Carnival, and even though Carnival never actually attacked them, a sort of rivalry sprung up among them. Carnival concentrated on more common criminal hunting, while Slipknot and Vertigo along with the Dawnstars worked against Uber human threats. However, Carnival was not above making the two look bad or even outdoing the Dawnstars. Infrequently Carnival even aided the Dawnstars; then Carnival disappeared for almost two months. When she resurfaced in Venice, she was a member of Protezoni, but otherwise she was still the same.


No one knows what drives Carnival. However, it's speculated that she's a thrill seeker. Carnival has no qualms about wading into the middle of a crowd to take out a villain. This has given her the reputation of a reckless vigilante. Carnival has also shown an impatient side, not waiting for others to get clear before she flips into a fight flinging colored balls.

Carnivals' one saving grace, that she doesn't allow crime to grow in Venice. She's always on the job, and it's rare day when the other members of Protezoni can rein her in. The others think a lot of her obession in fighting crime is due to her past. However, none of the other members, except for possibly Fata Morgana have been able to get close to Carnival, and she won't reveal what she has found out.

Carnival is a minor Uber whose powers are that she's faster and stronger than the average person. She has shown that she can run, jump, and swim almost to an Uberhuman level. Carnival has supplimented her meager powers by a number of odd gadgets. Her colored balls are her main attack, which vary from ball to ball. The black ones produces great quantities of smoke, the yellow ones cause blinding flashes of light, the red ones explode into a fiery inferno, the silver ones contain a knock out gas, the blue ones causes ice to instantly form around a target encasing them, and the green ones produce a gas that weakens the person hit by them.

In addition to the colored balls, Carnivals' mask protects her from flash attacks, has it's own built-in air supply, and also allows Carnival to see into the infrared spectrum. Carnival also has a small line gun hidden in her right glove. Micro-suction cups are also built into her reinforced costume allowing her to climb walls with ease. Carnival is also a highly skilled hand-to-hand combatant.


Carnival wears a scarlet skintight bodysuit that covers her entire body, except for her mask. She wears a white Venician carnival mask that makes her eyes look black. Carnival wears a small satchel which contains her colored balls. She's an accomplished juggler and at times will juggle her colored balls before throwing them. Otherwise Carnival is a lithe athletic woman. No one knows what she actually looks like under her mask, but it's known that she does have a scar on her face.
