Matthew Oswald sat on the barstool in the White Pride tavern brooding. He was brooding over the loss of his job at the Tex-Am oil refinery. Matthew had worked at the refinery for almost five years and they were letting him go. And why was the company letting him go? ‘Affirmative Action' they called it. More like 'throw away the white man', thought Matthew. Those gutless chickens. Matthew took another lengthy pull on his long-neck. This was his third beer that evening.

"Affirmative Action," Matthew moaned, "what is this nation coming to?"

Earlier that day....

The smiling Human Resources Director told Matthew all about ‘Affirmative Action' that morning. Matthew remembered each and every word the man had said.

Matthew was just about to finish his shift at the refinery, when his supervisor told him that he needed to stop by personnel. Matthew now sat across the desk from a mousy looking man who had his personnel file laid out in front of him.

"Ah yes, Mister uh," the man had to pause to look at the file, "Oswald. I'm terribly sorry to have to call you in at this time. However, certain new federal and state mandates have come down to Tex-Am. Do you know what ‘Affirmative Action' is?" asked the man.

But before Matthew was even able to answer the man went on. "Affirmative Action is a program that is designed to promote minorities, namely African-Americans and women, in the workplace. As such the Tex-Am Corporation is being strongly encouraged to comply with the affirmative action mandate. Tex-Am is expected to comply by introducing at least a five percent rise in its workforce being made up entirely of minorities and woman." A cold feeling cut into Matthew. He knew what was coming next.

The Director continued, "As I was saying, a five percent increase, requires a similar decrease in other departments to maintain profitability. After much discussion among the various department heads, it was decided that Tex-Am is going to have to let you go. I am so sorry."

Suddenly a sick feeling struck Matthew, followed by lightheadedness. He had to get out of that office before he threw up.

"Mister, uh Oswall are you feeling okay?" asked the Director

Matthew didn't even give a reply as he rushed to the men's room. However, the nausea grew worse and he was throwing up in the sink. After the retching was over, Matthew paused to wash his face in cold water. Looking up into the mirror, Matthew had to do a double take, it looked like there were actually two Matthews at the sink, shaking his head again it looked like there were actually four of him, and they all looked really queasy. Once again Matthew had to throw up. This time when he looked into the mirror it was only him. Groaning Matthew headed for the door. He grabbed the handle and the cheap door came right off its hinges. Shrugging his shoulders, Matthew dropped the door to the ground.

"God, I need a drink." said Matthew as his stumbled from the building.

Matthew stomped into the first bar he could find. He was going to get wasted.

"Affirmative Action," he mumbled.

As if the man next to him had accidentally heard him, the guy on the next stool turned to speak with Matthew.

"Hello, friend," the man said, "I couldn't help but notice that you seemed to be down in the dumps. Would you care to share?"

At first Matthew was a little leery of the man, but something in the firm, non-nonsense posture of the man loosened Matthew up. The two men talked for hours upon hours, over how the minorities had really ruined the nation, and how whites, especially the white males were becoming the new minority. More and more Matthew started agreeing with what his new associate, the General, said.

The beer flowed that night, and Matthew drank deep, as did the General. Some time during the evening Matthew could've swore that he heard a conversation from the restroom while he was still at the bar. It was even odder when Matthew thought that he was hitting on a girl over by the jukebox again while he was at the bar. The beer must be really getting to him. It was around two in the morning when the two drunken men staggered from the tavern.

"I may have need of a white man of you caliber, Matt old boy," said the General, "here's my card. Give me a call if you're interested."

The two men staggered off to their cars.

That night, Matthew was tossing and turning his bed in his single wide trailer. Nightmares about how the black people were harassing the whites, and there was no one in the nation who could protect the whites. And in the dream Matthew saw himself many times over fighting against the black onslaught.

Matthew awoke the next morning with a killer of a hang-over. Odd it looked like someone had slept next to him that night, but Matthew didn't have a girl friend. It was the sound of the shower turning off that really sobered Matthew up. Sitting up in bed, another Matthew came into the room toweling himself off.

"Feeling better sport?" asked Matthew2.

From the kitchen the sound and smell of breakfast being cooked came to Matthew's senses; grits and fatback. His favorites. Matthew3 leaned out and said that breakfast would be done shortly.

A big grin crossed Matthew's unshaven face. What happened last night came back to Matthew in a rush. He was in the restroom, and was over by the jukebox as well while he was also talking with Harley. Matthew had somehow unconsciously duplicated himself. The thought of now having the power and the willingness to make the world more like a place for descent white folk appealed to Matthew.

Instantly Matthew reached for the General's card and the phone. Maybe, just maybe, one man could make a difference in this world. Especially is that one man was a man of many. A true One Nation. And with his abilities to become many, the minorities better watch their step.

Matthew is an angry young man. He sees that affirmative action has stolen his job from him. Like most young men he blames others for all of his sufferings, especially minorities. Added to his association with General Uprising and the Seven Soldiers, it's no wonder he blames the minorities and the government. Most of his anger seems to be directed into tirades about affirmative action.

One Nation sees himself as a defender of the white man and the white man's way. He's the first to come to the defense of a white man against anyone else, especially against a minority. One Nation has little respect for the law and the government, and is seen as a vigilante by the police. The FBI has even opened a file on the activities of One Nation and his fellow Seven Soldiers.

“E. Pluribus Unum. One out of many. Ha, I'm many out of one!”

Matthew is a man with the ubergene that grants him the ability to recreate his physical form over and over again. Each duplication is exactly the same to the original in all respects, all the way down to his DNA. With these different duplicates of himself, One Nation can be in almost any place at once. However, each duplicate has his own mind and One Nation must communicate with each as a normal person would. Also at times of stress Matthew can accidentally duplicate himself. Where the duplicates actually come from, Matthew doesn't know. However, when he has been knocked unconscious they disappear.

When duplicated, One Nation becomes more resistant to power attacks and mental attacks. Conversely when he draws all of his duplications into himself his strength increases to uberhuman levels. Also being able to be in many places at once allows One Nation a better scope of vision and hearing. To protect himself from the minorities One Nation wears a suit of body armor, that the General got for him.

One Nation is a skilled bar room brawler able to hold his own even without his super-powers. He has also been known to use guile to get into some secure areas that some people would rather he didn't get into. He has also been known to deal with the criminal element, so long as they're not black, Mexican, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Vietnamese, Arab, Jew, or anyone not of the correct, pure race.

For a costume, One Nation wears a suit of white body armor along with a matching hood. His body armor completely hides his identity, and his duplicates look exactly like him.

When not in his One Nation guise, Matthew typically wears faded blue jeans, his cleanest shirt, and a baseball cap with the words "NASCAR" on it. Otherwise Matthew is an average looking man of average height and weight. Matthew has blond hair which his keeps fairly short, and brown eyes. Most people would describe Matthew as a redneck.
