Durock was first seen in Tradetseya, a small farming village in Siberia, almost immediately after the Tunguska explosion. A town that was close enough to have suffered many casualties from the mysterious blast. At first everyone ran from the large stony apparition. But when it didn't pursue, they stopped and watched what it was doing, which was carrying the body they had dropped to the graveyard, and to start digging a grave.

It wasn't long before the whole town came to accept this strange creature who spoke perfect Russian and knew everyone by name. No one was ever able to figure out where Durock had come from. Durock himself wasn't any help, the first thing he remembered was standing on the hillside looking down at the town and realizing he belonged there.

Over the years the gentle Durock helped the town as best he could. Despite his appearance, there wasn't a kinder soul to be found. Durock would pull the plow, or watch the children. While his large stony hands looked clumsy, he had enough dexterity to change a babies diaper.

Durock's village was isolated and was little affected by the political changes over the years. It was so small that it appeared only on the most detailed of maps. Even the nearby 'Big City' of Tura only had a population of 6,000. The equipment in town was always antiquated, and became more so as the rest of the town progressed. Durock remained the towns secret for nearly a century, the townsfolk having him hide the few times strangers were around. It was as if they knew that if anyone knew that Durcok was here, that he would be taken away. They were right.

One day a minor supervillain showed up in Siberia. He figured that while there wasn't much there to steal, there was no one guarding what little there was, and he was tired of fighting superheroes. His plan was working till he came across Tradetseya, Durock's town. Durock was able to stop him easily. The problem was what to do with him. Durock refused to kill him or let anyone else do so. But he was to dangerous to let loose. Finally it was decided to call in national authorities.

The government men came and took the villain away, but they also had many questions about Durock. And that was the last the village heard of it until years latter. When Russian Dawn was being formed, these old files came to light. Durock was just what was needed to provide the team muscle. So an invitation was sent to Durock to join the new team. Being who he was, Durock could not refuse to help all of Russia.

But Durock didn't need to leave his hometown completely. His powers allowed him to travel anywhere in the world in a minute, so he could often come home to visit or to lend a helping hand.

Durock is a gentle giant. Although he is good at it, he resorts to combat only when all attempts at persuasion fail. His only goal in life is to help people, in any way he can. Despite his monstrous appearance, Durock does not feel cut off from humanity. He is very gregarious and makes friends easily. He is very hard to taunt, insults bounce off him just as sticks and stones would.

"Can. I. help. you?"

Durock has the ability to transfer his self into inanimate rock and make it into a semiliving body for himself. It actually has stony muscles in the limbs and a stony brain in the torso. This stony body is very strong, harder to break than most other rocks, and very resistant to pain. Any breaks in the body are quickly repaired, although missing pieces need a source of rock to replace them. Durock is able to send his essence through the earth to another location, creating a new body there, along with a small amount of inorganic material that he can carry. This has the effect of a long range teleport, although the process is too slow to use in combat. Durock doesn't see by normal sight, but rather by a psionic sense he call's "Stone Sight". He see through any inorganic materials and/or identify their general composition. Because he isn't using light to see, he is completely color blind, he can't even tell black from white other than by analyzing the chemical composition of the inks, and then only if they’re inorganic inks.

Durock is 8 feet tall and weighs 1.75 tons. He is made of rough gray stone of an unknown type, with pits for eyes, and a slit for his mouth. When he opens his mouth, it's like a muppet, no tongue, teeth or digestive track inside. Every time he moves, the sound of grating rock can be heard. Durock does not normally wear cloths (and is not anatomically correct).
