Forestall knew this was a bad idea. He was supposed to be having dinner tonight at Heising’s on Rankestrasse with Erin so he just couldn’t believe that he found himself going into the sewers beneath the streets of Berlin. Sometimes he wished that his sense of right and wrong wasn’t so strong. However, how could he call himself a super-hero if he didn’t aid a damsel in distress? True this damsel was older than him but a lady nonetheless. Andrea Kohl was the mother of the late Dawnstar member Shriek, so how could he say ‘no’ to her.

As Forestall prowled down seemingly endless passages beneath the city he recalled the call that he received just a couple of hours ago from the power Frau Kohl. He had been getting ready for his dinner date with Erin Jay when the phone rang. The pair had come to Berlin to convince some EU member for further support the Dawnstars. At first he thought it must have been Erin, but was truly surprised to hear a voice from the past.

Forestall could only marvel at how clean and organized the sewers of Berlin were. The place was well lighted and there were signs all over the place. As sewers go this was one of the best kept.

He had just stepped out of the shower and had just wrapped his towel around his waist when the phone rang. Cursing a little under his breathe he rushed over to answer it.

“Ja, Erin I’m getting ready. I should be ready in about 15 minutes,” he said into the receiver.

“Herr Doles, this is Andrea Kohl,” the voice on the other end of the line answered.

“I don’t know if you remember me, I am, or I was Kristin’s mother.”

Forestall almost dropped the phone then and there. How could he forget Kristin and the way she had died right in front of his very eJa. It was her death that eventually brought him in contact with the Dawnstars, a group he had quickly joined.

He had to swallow several times before he could reply the sight of Kristin’s crumpled body coming back to haunt him.

Ja Frau Kohl, I do remember you.”

“I’m so sorry for disturbing you Herr Doles. I know we have, how you say a colorful past, but I don’t know whom to turn to. I heard from a friend that you were in town. I would’ve turned to the police but I don’t think they would listen to me.”

Forestall paused. There it was. He knew that the entrance to the catacombs underneath the sewers existed but never in all his life thought he would be ever here. These hidden catacombs were built by the Nazi as a last refuge in case the Allies every entered Berlin during the war. To his knowledge these catacombs were never used.

“Please Frau Kohl,” Forestall started.

“Please call me Andrea,” she interrupted.

“Ja, okay Andrea... I’m afraid I’m not following. How can I help you?”

“As I was saying, you knew Kristen was a super-hero, a Dawnstar. Well, I have another daughter. Her name is Erika. I’m afraid that Erika has attempted to follow in her sisters footpaths. She partially blames me for her sister’s death.”

Forestall hadn’t personally knew Shriek but his years with the Dawnstars had told him a lot about the fallen Dawnstar. However, the subject of a sister had never come up. Things had been so chaotic that night at the opera house in Vienna. He didn’t even have a chance to confront Andrea there and only met her later at the police station.

“So Shriek has a sister?”

“Ja Herr Doles and I am afraid that she has run away from home. She left me a note that she knew where these die Kinder Zukunft were hiding in Hitler’s Garden. None of this makes sense to me? Who are these Children of the Future, and what is Hitler’s Garden.”

As Andrea spoke a sense of hysteria crept into her voice.

“Please calm down Frau Kohl, um…I mean Andrea. You say that Erika has run away to the Kinder Zukunft? And it has something to do with Hitler’s Garden?”

“Ja, Ja, that is what I said,” she almost snapped.

“Well, I’ve had dealing with the Kinder before. I don’t want to scare you or anything but they’re a nasty bunch indeed.”

“Please Herr Doles; I am at my wits end. I have no one else to turn to.”

Forestall could hear her starting to weep on the other end of the line. He hated to hear women cry. He also knew that she was trying to manipulate him, but that didn’t change the fact that someone needed his assistance; the only assistance that a Dawnstar could provide.

“Andrea, let me make so calls. I’ll see what I can do.”

“Oh thank you Herr Doles, oh thank you.”

Forestall turned to his closet and slide the door open revealing his costume. He hadn’t planned on wearing it tonight, but circumstances had made it so. Once dressed he once again picked up his phone. While he knew a little about Berlin, he wasn’t a native. In fact there was only group that he could turn to and that was Uberforce. He had fought alongside the German super-group before. At one point he had even considered joining them but since joining the Dawnstars hadn’t given Uberforce that much thought.

The trapdoor was made from solid steel almost a meter thick. Forestall sighed just looking at it. He knew he couldn’t lift it. Suleyman or Skipknot he knew could raise the door with ease, but not him. Nor were there any plants around that he could animate to assist him. Well nothing ventured, nothing gained. He put both hands on the handle and pulled. Forestall almost ended falling backwards as the trapdoor easily came up on well-oiled hinges. Well, that was unexpected he thought.

It took several calls to find the person he needed to talk with. He learned that Max Uber was in the hospital after a fight with 07-734. That itself was hard to believe; the Max he knew was practically indestructible. As for Immorta, well she hadn’t left his side since and was of no use. That really only left Zeitgeist or Zwerg whom he didn’t know that well. It was Zeitgeist who got him contact with Nacht their resident expert on all things Nazi.

“Good evening Forestall,” Nacht’s voice came across as a soft whisper. Not surprising seeing that she was a ghost.

He had met near where the former Reich Chancellery stood. None of the former structure remained. He was a little startled when she just walked out of a shadow. Forestall didn’t have much to do with the supernatural.

“Good evening to you as well Frau Nacht,” he said in greeting.

The both stood there for moment with nothing being said. Nacht just stood there almost like she was looking through him. It made him wonder who the ghost here was truly. He almost jumped when she did speak.

“There is where you’ll being you’re journey,” she said pointing like Death itself to a manhole cover a few meters down the street.

“Beneath the streets of Berlin in the sewers you will find an entrance to the catacombs. The place is a maze for the unwary. At the center of the labyrinth you will find Hitler’s Garden.”

“Hitler’s Garden…What exactly is it.”

“During the war, the Fuehrer not feeling safe had an unground garden built for his pleasure. The place has since been lost to the vagrancies of time. Most do not remember it. However, it appears that the die Kinder Zukunft have not. I wish I could accompany you Forestall but something is blocking me.”

“Thanks for the warning Frau Nacht,” Forestall said only to find that he was standing on Wilhelmstrasse all by himself.

So thanks to Nacht he had found the catacombs beneath the sewers of Berlin. Unlike the sewers above the catacombs were a damp musty place. To make matters worse his claustrophobia was kicking in. He never liked enclosed places and this was almost unbearable. He had to pause to take several deep breathes to steady himself. The tunnels were dark but lichen grew along the walls that Forestall was able to coax to give off some phosphorescence light made things better.

Forestall wandered from tunnel to tunnel seemingly for hours. His claustrophobia was getting worse the longer he was down her. He wasn’t sure how much longer he could go on before he would have to admit defeat and turn back. Just when he felt like he was at his breaking point he heard chanting up ahead.

“Seig Hail! Seig Hail!”

This had to be the place thought Forestall as he crept up to a set of wrought iron gates. The twisted double helix behind a swastika declared that this place was the territory of the Children of the Future. Forestall gave a little push on the gates but found them locked. No matter, he had learned a little about lock picking from Slipknot. As he worked the lock he could hear the Kinder inside chanting their Nazi slogans. He figured that since they were so far away from the light of day they must feel safe. He must do something about that.

There was a click and he pushed one of the gates open just enough to allow him entry. So this must be Hitler’s Garden he thought. The place was like a cathedral dedicated to Nazism. In a way it was beautiful in a sickening sort of way. The garden was illuminated by growth lamps way up on the ceiling. Just past the gates Forestall stepped onto growing grass, which felt wonderful underfoot. As he advanced into the garden he saw rows upon rows of rose beds.

Along a cobbled path he discovered the chanters. There was about two dozen die Kinder standing before an altar. Lying across the altar was a young woman that he assumed must be Erika Kohl. She looked like she was unconscious. Standing behind the altar was someone that he had met before. It wasn’t Vaterschmerz like he expected but Verderber or Corruptor as he was known in English. The last time he had seen the leader of Blitzkrieg it had when the group had attacked the Dawnstars on their aircraft the Miranda.

“Brothers and sisters,” Corruptor was saying to the gathering, “A weed has sprung amongst us here in a place that is scared to those who will inherit the future.”

As one the crowd shouted “Seig Hail! Seig Hail!”

“The Fuehrer has spoken to me and we shall pluck this weed from the garden so that it doesn’t weaken our glorious vitality.”

Corruptor was reaching into his cloak to pull out a gun when the garden erupted around him. Rose bushes grew to monstrous proportions wrapping themselves around several people in the crowd. The chants of ‘Seig Hail, Seig Hail’ came to an abrupt end. Forestall came out of the shadows.

“You..!” Corruptor practically spat, “Kill him… Kill him for the Vaterschmerz!”

The remaining Kinder who weren’t struggling with the plants that Forestall gave life to surge forward to rip the super-hero to pieces. The first Kinder to get to him got a face full of spores and stumbled off gasping for air. He wasn’t so lucky with his next attacker. This one had wicked claws that raked his arm. His body armor failed to protect him from the claws and he screamed out as blood went flying splattering the roses.

Corruptor came forward his mind reaching out to strike Forestall down. However, just as he was about to inflict pain upon Forestalls mind there was sudden interference. Erika sat up on the altar and triggered her own mental assault. Miraculously the attack was somehow deflected. All that mental energy from Corruptor, Forestall and Erica Kohl slammed into the plants. Things got very strange after that. The plants constricted upon themselves shaping themselves into the figure of a young girl.

While all this was happening the fighting didn’t stop. Erica woozily got to her feet. She hadn’t noticed the plant girl forming and unleashed a mental shriek that sent several of the die Kinder to the ground. It of course had no effect on Corruptor at all, but it certainly got his attention.

Corruptor turned and walked back to the altar seemingly oblivious to all the chaos around him. He reached out and seized Erika by the chin and looked deep into her eyes. She glared back at him in defiance.

“You have a very lovely mind my dear,” he almost purred, “It’ll be a pleasure to pervert your mind until you’ll gladly join the Children of the Future.”

“I’ll never join you,” she practically spat in his smiling face.

Corruptor’s malevolent smile faltered when brown armed wrapped around his torso and thorns cut into body armor. He found himself pulled off his feet to come face to face with a beautiful green face.

“It’s not nice to force yourself on a helpless girl,” the green girl said.

“Silence…!” Corrupter shouted and unleashed a barrage of mental energy at her only to find that she wasn’t affected at all. She merely smiled up at him before throwing him across the chamber to hit the wall. She then helped Erika to her feet.

“Who are you?” Erika asked astonished that anyone could stand up against a powerful mentalist like Corruptor.

“I don’t know, but I guess you could call me Wildblume.”

“Look out,” Erika shouted, but she was too late. One of the die Kinder rushed up onto the platform and his hands had warped into a pair of wicked blades. He slashed at Wildblume severing her left arm at the elbow. Wildblume merely looked down at the fallen limb with a sense of wonder on her face. She held up her stump of a limb and slowly but surely the limb was starting to bud. She couldn’t help but smile at it.

During the confusion, Corruptor made his getaway. Erika wasn’t really too happy to see Forestall. She partial blamed them for the death of her sister. Eventually he convinced her to return home, at least for a little while. As for Wildblume she stayed in the garden for a while, because Forestall thought she’d revert to her previous state. In this he was wrong. A few days later she found her way to the surface.

Wildblume is fairly new to the world as a sentient plant. As such she takes in the wonders of the world with a child’s interest. New things are always of an interest to her. At times this makes her seem flighty, easily distracted. Her childlike view makes her endearing to some, but easily manipulated by others. Wildblume has a lot of trouble telling the difference between a ‘good’ person and a ‘bad’ person, thinking that almost everyone is a good person.

Wildblume is aware that animals are susceptible to the power of her thorns and usually uses them in self-defense, just like any other plant would. As a plant she prefers to use her thorns for defense, but isn’t above the adage that a good offense is a good defense. So far she hasn’t killed anyone but certainly has hurt those who’ve tried to harm her.

"Ja diese Rose hat Dornen."

Wildblume is a sentient plant. As such her body has a structure that is capable of receiving more damage than an animal; this is due to the fact that her flesh is cellulose. Not only is her body more resilient, she has shown that she can ‘regrow’ lost limbs. It’s unknown if Wildblume would regenerate her head if it were severed. Wildblume, technically doesn’t breath like an animal would but takes in carbon dioxide and releases oxygen like any other plant. As such it’s impossible to strangle or choke her in any way. She receives all her nutrition from sunlight and doesn’t need to eat like an animal does. However, this doesn’t mean that she can’t. When Wildblume does it, it’s usually just vitamins or such.

Wildblume is able to grow thorns all over her body. Those who physically attack her often find themselves pierced by her thorns. She can also hurt people with her thorns if she physically attacks an opponent. Against foes too far away from her to reach, Wildblume can cause her thorns to project from her body with such force as to pierce steel.

Wildblume is able to manipulate her body so that she can extend an extremity, usually an arm and strike at a foe over a distance. Also at times, she’s has been able to put down roots in the ground allowing her to resist the effects of knockback. However, she has to be aware of the attack to put her roots down.

Wildblume has a minor mental power in that she can cause nearby plants to sprout and snare anyone caught unawares. However, when there is not sufficient plant growth around she isn’t able to use this ability. Lastly Wildblume being a plant is more attune to infrared light and as such is able to see into that spectrum.

Wildblume is a sentient plant. As such while she has the form of a human female, she is in fact entirely plant based. She stands 5'8" tall and weighs about 136 lbs with a slim atheletic build. He skin is of a light green tone with her hair a darker shade of green which grows midway down her back. Technically Wildblume doesn't wear a costume; her costume is actually a covering that she grows. To the world her 'costume' is a brown leotard with a wood grain pattern to it. In addition to her leotard she grows gloves that reach just past her elbows as well as boots that grow up to her thighs. One of her most startling features is her eyes, which look blood red.

As a living plant, Wildblume has no real need for clothing. She receives all of her energy through photosynthesis. In fact, if she were to wear clothing it mostly like would be detrimental to her health due to blocking her from sunlight. In fact Wildblume has little need for what humans’ desire.
