Background

Rosalia sighed as she placed the pot she had just washed on the sideboard to dry. Two years ago if someone had told her she'd be washing dishes in a homeless shelter just to have a place to eat and sleep she would have laughed and called them crazy. Back then her powers were just starting to manifest and she dreamed of becoming a super-hero like the former Dawnstars, she hadn't yet had to live with her fanatic aunt Isabella, hadn't been forced to help a villain carry out his schemes, and most of all her parents had still been alive.

The plane crash that took their lives had been the first in a string of events that convinced Rosalia she was cursed. She still had nightmares about her aunt waking her in the middle of the night to tell her what had happened. The news hadn't even sunk in when Isabella was dragging Rosalia out of bed and insisting she get down on her knees and pray God forgive her parents sinful ways and lack of faith and not send their souls to Hell. None of Isabella's accusations were true of course but Rosalia had been too much in shock to protest. The prayer sessions continued after the funerals and, even at fourteen and suffering her own grief, Rosalia realized losing her brother had driven the already pious Isabella over the edge into fanaticism.

It was then Rosalia vowed not to tell her aunt about her ever growing power. She was afraid the older woman might see it as a mark of the devil and didn't want to cause any more worry for her. A couple of weeks later her decision proved to be the right one when her aunt met a Follower of the Sacred Word, a secretive sect who believe ubers to be abominations in the eyes of God, and they became fast friends. A few weeks later and Isabella was moving them out to live at the sect's compound in a remote part of the Italian countryside.

The regimented lifestyle of the commune might have broken down Rosalia's resolve not to tell anyone about her powers if not for an incident which occurred only a couple of days after her arrival. A boy no older than herself confessed his uber abilities during morning prayers and instead of the extra prayers she expected him to be assigned, she was surprised to hear he was to be flogged, with the whole congregation watching, until he was free of the taint. By the time a halt was called to the punishment the boy's back was raw and bleeding. He was carted off to the compound's infirmary and Rosalia never saw him again. The congregation was told the next day he had been expelled for his refusal to give up Satan but Rosalia always wondered if he hadn't died from his wounds and it was being covered up.

She was sure of one thing, she was never going to allow herself to find out the truth firsthand. Having been a fan of the Dawnstars she had read everything she could get her hands on about how people became ubers. And while she didn't understand everything she'd read she understood enough to know you couldn't just beat the power out of someone. She also understood most of the people in the congregation were fanatical enough to believe it could be done, including her aunt Isabella, which would mean Rosalia would be in the same position as the boy even if she only told her aunt. Of course that meant she would have to find a way to leave the compound if she ever wanted to live free with her budding abilities.

For the next few months Rosalia laid low, bringing as little attention to herself as possible. She did what chores were assigned to her without question, didn't grumble when awakened at 5am for morning prayers, and otherwise pretended to embrace her new life. By all appearances a perfect disciple of the faith. Her act eventually earned her the opportunity for escape she had been hoping for.

At the beginning of each month a small group of Follows went into the nearest town for supplies the compound couldn't provide for themselves, sell decorative crosses assembled by the congregation, and hand out literature. In town the group split into pairs to accomplish the necessary chores. Rosalia was paired with an older women who had been a Follower for many years and whose mind was easy to manipulate. When they were out of site of the others Rosalia made the woman forget anyone was with her and Rosalia simply slipped away. It had been easy enough to do but Rosalia hadn't counted on someone else seeing what she had done.

A large man fell into step beside her as she walked away. "That was pretty slick, but you're not going to get very far dressed like that." He was referring to the robes the followers were all required to wear.

Rosalia turned bright red. She hadn't thought of that and panic began to set in. The man smiled but it did little to reassure Rosalia. "I can help you if you like. I know a thing or two about powers like yours." He laughed at Rosalia's shocked expression. "Oh yes, I'm quite aware of what you did back there. It was crude but effective."

Rosalia looked up into the man's pale face. He was an albino like her hero Slipknot and while his eyes were covered by mirrored glasses she could imagine them being pink just like Slipknot's. "How . . . How do you know?" She stammered.

"Your power is easy to see for someone who knows what to look for." The man coolly looked her over. "I've got a job here and I could use someone like you to make things easier. I'll teach you what you need to know if you'll come work for me."

The man smiled a cruel smile at Rosalia's hesitation. "You really don't have a choice you know. There's no way you'll be able to get away on your own and you know what will happen to you if they catch you."

Rosalia remembered the whipping post and had a vision of herself tied to it. Imagined the pain of the whip cracking down on her back as the congregation pried around her. The vision was so strong she actually felt the pain and cried out. She couldn't go back there, not now. As much as her common sense told her she shouldn't trust this stranger her fear of returning to the Follower's compound was stronger. Besides, this man had to be one of the good guys. If he was a villain he wouldn't have offered to help her. Slowly she nodded, "Okay, what do you need me to do? And what's your name?"

"You can call me, Omen."

**

One year later.

Rosalia was shaking as she donned her costume, today she was finally going to be free. It had been hard work but she had learned to shield her thoughts from her mentor, at least in part, and she was sure he had no idea this job would be her last. It had come as quite a shock when Rosalia had realized the man she agreed to work for was really a villain who wanted to use her as a pawn in his schemes. Few people suspected trouble from a teenage girl and Omen was quick to use that to his advantage. She had lost track of the number of times she had been sent in to distract someone while Omen did whatever it was he did but that would all be over today.

While Omen had been out meeting the man he called Remus, Rosalia had quickly packed a small bag and headed for a bus station only a few blocks away. There she stashed the bag in a locker and bought a ticket for later that afternoon. She almost decided to leave right then and there but if Omen returned to the hotel and found her gone this would be the first place he looked and she didn't want to imagine the trouble she would be in. If she were caught Omen would make sure she never had another chance to escape. That was if he even allowed her to live, which Rosalia found doubtful. She may have managed to convince him she was loyal but she had no illusions she was more than a convenience to him. If she were no longer useful he wouldn't hesitate to eliminate her as she was sure he had eliminated others.

Omen's voice calling her name drew her from her reverie and she quickly shielded her thoughts. Everything was arranged, as soon as Omen left her alone she would head for the station, grab her bag, and be a bus out of there within the hour.

And everything had gone as planned. She was now free of both the Followers of the Sacred Word and from Omen, There was only one thing she hadn't taken into consideration. What she was going to do once she was finally on her own.

Personality

While Rosalia has had a rough few years she has managed to remain optimistic and believes everything will work out for the best. Even so she goes through periods of moodiness typical of most teenagers.

Quote

"Awww, hai dimenticato me giÓ?"

Powers

Forget Me Not has the power to read people's memories and remove them if she wants. She can also bring her target's most painful memories to the surface, stunning them, or just hold them in place while they take a trip down memory lane.

To date she has only been able to remove unimportant memories from her targets, so while she might be able to make them forget she was even there she is not able to make them forget a loved one or anything else of strong importance.

Appearance

Rosalia is a very pretty girl with black hair down to the middle of her back and striking green eyes. Her time on the streets has made her rather thin and combined with her small stature she looks somewhat frail. Her clothes consist mostly of cast offs and as a result nothing ever fits her quite right.

As Forget Me Not she still wears the costume Omen provided similar to his, a black sleeveless armored suit with mosiac trim, not because she likes it but because she can't afford to change it. The biggest difference is where Omen wears a visor to protect his sight Forget Me Not wears a mask to protect her identity.
