Abandoned shortly after birth with his identical twin brother, Emilio, Adalberto Cavallo was raised at a Catholic Orphanage and spent the first sixteen years of his life there. He wasn't a favourite of the nuns, and tended to get into fights and arguments from morning till night - all of which were related to his brother in some way in their everlasting duels of one-upmanship. Emilio and Berto hated each other, almost as much as they hated the orphanage. Neither one was ever adopted out, and after the first few disastrous visits from prospective parents, neither boy was even considered for future visits. They simply couldn't stop rebelling against the world for long enough to give anyone a chance.

When Berto started punching holes in the walls of the orphanage the nuns knew that something was different about the angry young boy. He was fifteen and adolescence had burdened him with terrible acne, unexpected growth spurts and an even shorter temper. Added to this was the development of super powers: an ability to press all of his anger and frustration together in such a way as to condense his physical body into a superhard form. It was as if Berto was trying to fold himself up into a ball and disappear. His super dense form also had super strength and his anger resulted in much property damage. Emilio showed no signs of super abilities and became even more vitriolic towards his brother.

The nuns asked Berto to leave and gave him a bus ticket to the city. He left that morning without any of his meager belongings.

It took him some time to become accustomed to life in Buenos Aires. Everything was so much faster than at the orphanage. He fell in with some other runaways and street urchins, impressing them with his silvery form. They encouraged him to make some money with his powers, to take what he needed; but something inside of Berto emerged from the darkness of his childhood.

He realised he had a chance.

A chance that very few others had.

He decided to make the world a better place.

Taking on the name Toro de Plata ("Silver Bull"), Berto began to look for crime which he planned to oppose and make right. At first he was completely hopeless at crime fighting. He would be pushed aside by fleeing bank robbers, or he would lose track of a bag snatcher in the alleys of Buenos Aires. But he was persistent. He kept appearing in public and soon he was producing some positive results, although for every crime he prevented, another two were mishaps. There were frequent news reports about the 'Clumsy Bull', but the reports were generally positive and Berto felt like he belonged to the big city.

While Berto began a stumbling career as a super hero, Emilio festered in envy. He waited for his own super powers to emerge. They were twins: identical twins. They should have possessed the same genetic abilities, but nothing seemed to be happening for Emilio. He became desperate and fled the orphanage, heading towards Buenos Aires and a confrontation with his brother. He believed that if he could confront his brother then his powers would manifest.

Emilio never arrived.

Fate intervened in the form of a posse of six vampires who massacred the bus he was travelling on. Emilio and two others were taken as snacks for a later time, but one of the female vampires took an interest in Emilio and before the sun had risen the next morning, Emilio had been seduced and transformed into a vampire himself. It wasn't the super powers he had wanted, or expected, but Emilio was sharp enough to realise his chance to seek revenge on his twin brother had arrived.

Berto was soon drawn into the darker world of vampires after his brother and the other vampires hit Buenos Aires. It marked the beginning of a shift for Berto, moving away from the flashy world of superheroes to the darker world of the undead. Although he never managed to catch Emilio, who was now referring to himself as Cain, the constant threat that his brother presented kept Berto busy. He discarded the Silver Bull name and dubbed himself Abel to focus himself on opposing his brother who now threatened everything that Berto believed in. He considered himself embroiled in a battle of Good versus Evil, and the battles were never as clearly defined, or easily won, as they were in the super hero world.

It was during these darker times that Abel met Edward Willing and joined forces to track down a coven of witches in Mexico City. They teamed up for several other assignments and discovered that they worked well together. It was Edward's idea to start the Willing and Abel Detective Agency, and later when Helen Reddy joined they became the (now) famous 'Reddy, Willing and Abel Detective Agency'.

A tough guy who has seen it all, Abel has actually become a more accepting and warm person as he has aged. As a child he was always looking for ways to rebel against the orphanage or to score points off his brother, but after waging a mildly successful campaign against crime as Silver Bull, as well as a darker quest into the shadowy worlds of the undead, Abel has found his true calling amongst Reddy, Willing and Abel. As a private detective he is able to help fix the problems that his life seemed to be cursed with so that other families get the chance at happiness he felt he missed out on. He enjoys his work and takes comfort in what he is able to achieve.

On the other hand, he absolutely hates the undead. Not only do they give him the creeps, but he believes that they have no chance at redemption and therefore deserve no mercy. He has no time for them, especially his brother Cain.

Abel does enjoy his Friday Night Card Game and is known as a card shark amongst his friends. The card games are the only time that Abel tends to relax and enjoy his friends and a case of beer. He is otherwise very hard on himself, probably due to his harsh upbringing in the orphanage and for somehow failing his brother, or not being able to maintain a normal relationship with Cain.

He works very hard, never takes a break, and pushes himself further than any taskmaster. He does expect the same level of commitment from other heroes, and doesn't take kindly to superheroes with secret IDs. He doesn't see the need to hide your identity if your intentions are true. He believes that if superheroes won't stand up for what they believe in, and be accountable for their actions, then they aren't true heroes. He has, in the past, revealed the identities of superheroes who have consistently hidden behind masks, especially those who break the laws without regard to consequences.
"Sure, Senora, I can get your husband back from the clutches of the brujah in the basement apartment, but after I eliminate her hell hounds and vampire retainer I really suggest you and Senor Lopez get some marriage counselling, okay?"

Abel is primarily a brawler. His no-nonsense attitude, detective skills, naturally dense form and martial arts training make him a formidable opponent. When he activates his silver-form, his body density increases dramatically and his strength, durability and speed increase exponentially. At maximum density, weighing over 4500 kg, Abel is able to lift 25 tons and can react quicker than most opponents.

Abel gives off an aura of strength and a definite 'don't mess with me' attitude. He believes he has seen it all and is not easily impressed. He refuses to wear a costume after the embarrassment of the early 1990s and regularly wears a leather jacket, t-shirt and jeans.

He wears shades on occasion (usually to hide a hang over), and when expecting trouble he will wear a lightweight but durable microweave body armour under his normal clothes. He used to carry a stake with him, in case he met up with vampires, but now he tends to wait until the vampire approaches him and then finds a weapon in his area, whether it be the leg of a chair or a power pole.

When he activates his silver form, Abel's body visibly shrinks as his body condenses, dropping from 1.92m to 1.8m. His skin changes to a hardened silver metal which appear as silver bands around his body. In this form, Abel usually discards his jacket and t-shirt as they become loose and get in his way, but he always retains his pants (and his modesty).
